Picture Apologies For Dog Days

All of those pictures I took at Monday and Wednesday's Dog Days appear to have not been taken at all. When I opened my camera to take out the memory card...there was no memory card to take out. Not sure I understand how that could happen since my camera doesn't take pictures without a card, but I must have taken two days worth of pictures that weren't pictures at all. Very ticked at myself!!!

Regardless...I know the kids really enjoyed meeting all of your dogs! The purpose of having your dogs come to visit was to give the 6th graders the opportunity to share the love they have for their dogs. The main character in our story Where the Red Fern Grows truly loves his dogs, and his dogs love and are incredibly dedicated to him. What a great opportunity to be able to share this gift of God that we are given through the pets we are blessed with.

"Dog Days"

We are currently reading Where the Red Fern Grows in 6th grade literature class. This is a story about a boy and his dogs, and their amazing love and dedication to each other. As a culminating activity for this novel, we will be having "Dog Days", which will allow your child to bring their dogs to school to meet the rest of the class. Please look for a sheet to come home explaining more about this special event. Feel free to join us, even if you are not a dog owner.

Thank you!

Camp Philip Update

A few changes to our schedule

· The Monday group will leave at 9:00. The Tuesday group will leave at 9:30. Everyone should bring a bag lunch to eat when we get there.

· No electronics will be allowed

· Please bring a Bible, sleeping bag/pillow and personal care items. A “what to bring to camp” list is posted outside Mrs. Rohleder's door.

· Please bring an extra pair of shoes, it is very muddy. Along with warm clothes for campfire

· The Camp store will be open briefly before we depart. Check the website for items/prices

· All medications must be labeled with directions for the nurse to dispense

I'm stopping at the bus company next week to look at the luggage rack and see how we will fit. Many parents will be driving with our stuff too.

Any questions or things I may have missed?

Educational field trip to Camp Phillip

Educational field trip to Camp Phillip

Dear Parents,

There will be 9 students per adult chaperone in each cabin. The cabins have flush toilets and bunk beds. We plan on leaving at 8:30 and should arrive around 11:00. There will be a brief orientation before our sack lunch. After lunch we will prepare for the ropes course. The 5/6th grades will be doing the low ropes course and the 7/8th will be doing the high ropes. If they choose not to climb they will be there to encourage others and observe. We will also participate in outdoor games such as Paul Ball and disc golf. After dinner there will be geo caching and Bible study, campfire, sing a long and bedtime (10:00). In the morning after breakfast we will clean the cabins and have time for a game or two before packing up and returning to St. Jacobi. Camp Phillip asks that no electronics be brought along (except for a camera). The chaperones will have phones in case you need to reach us. I am asking chaperones to car pool if possible to carry bedding, luggage and our sack lunches. If you are willing to drive please let me know so I can help with the car pool list. If you have any other questions please contact me at school (425-2040) or home (427-6153)

Our goals for camp are to develop a stronger faith, encourage cooperation and teamwork and enjoy Gods creation. We look forward to a great trip.

T-Shirts and Garbage Cans

The students in grades 5-8 will be performing a musical/drama extravaganza. The costuming for most students will be rather simple. They will need to wear nice jeans, no holes or tears, as well as a T-shirt. The T-shirt should be the color of their Kickball Kickoff/Track & Field team color. The T-shirt should be a solid color with no printing on it. If your child needs one, JoAnne Fabrics has colored T-shirts for around $5. Students should have their T-shirts at school on Monday, April 11th.

Also, one of the acts needs 7 clean metal garbage cans. They will be hit with drumsticks. Are you willing to donate or loan us one(or more)?

Thank you for your help and cooperation,

Mr. Frisque & Mrs. Prekop

LPS Field Trip

The LPS Field Trip is this week Wednesday. We leave around 9:30 and will be eating lunch at LPS. Our arrival back at school will be around 3:15. Depending on traffic, we might not make it back for the 3:15 dismissal.

We have a large number of parents who want to attend this field trip. Due to limited number of seats available on the bus, we will need a few parents to drive to LPS. The cost for the trip for non bus chaperons is $2 for lunch. For those riding the bus it will be $6. Those who signed up from 6th grade to be chaperons are the following: Krutz, Sweezey, Emmrich, Krank, Hopp, Wenslaff, Dziekan, and Spaude.

Thank you for your willingness. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Research Paper - Resource on the Web

I know that writing a research paper can be an overwhelming experience. I break the project into several smaller pieces. Here is a website you might want to bookmark. It also breaks the research paper into several smaller chunks. It also gives clear, easy to understand directions as well as examples.

Research Papers for 6th & 7th Grade

Well, we have begun the adventure of writing research papers. So far we have explored the different topic possibilities. The research papers must be somehow connected to the Science Fair project. We have also begun searching for sources. The students are required to have a minimum of 5 sources which included 3 different types of resources. Different resources may include but are not limited to the following: interviews, books, magazines, encyclopedias (NOT Wikipedia), internet sites, and videos. The whole research paper will be due the end of February or beginning of March. I still need to finalize due dates.

The students have been instructed to explore Sciencebuddies.org for ideas as well as for help in how to complete both the research paper as well as the Science Fair project. Sciencebuddies.org is NOT a requirement, but rather simply a helpful starting point. It may not help everyone.

God’s blessings on the work ahead!

Lunch Following The Magic Bicycle

All moms are invited to lunch following "The Magic Bicycle" this Thursday. We will be eating at Sobelmans Grill-1900 west St. Paul Avenue. (414-931-1919) The Travel Channel's "Food Wars" show visited Sobelman's last April to do a story on their nationally known burgers. In honor of the Green Bay victory, they just added "The Spank" burger to their menu-a prime angus beef patty dripping with wisconsin nacho cheddar cheese and topped with fresh pico de gallo. Burger platters run around six to seven dollars.

Thank you!

6th Grade Forensics

By now your child should have brought home a 6th grade forensic packet with all of the descriptions of categories they have to choose from for their presentations. We have materials at school for their forensics, but you may want to go to your local library to find other material.
Your child must have their piece chosen by Thurs., Jan. 13th.
Introductory paragraph must be written by Tues., Jan. 18th
Class presentations will begin on Monday Jan. 24 and run through Jan. 27, and will begin with the presentation of the Interpretive Prose pieces, as they do not need to be memorized.
The presentations are graded and are the equivalent of a test score.

All pieces must be a minimum of 3 1/2 mins. long with introduction.
Please encourage your child to practice in front of you so they can grow accustom to having an audience.

The in school competition is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 10th
The St. Paul's Muskego competition will be March 12th
